Tesla FSD, Optimus & AI: The Road Ahead | Chattanooga Charge Panel
I joined a panel at Chattanooga Charge 2026 alongside Josh West, David Moss, and Landon of the West to talk through where Tesla's AI ecosystem is headed — Full Self-Driving, Hardware 4, Optimus, and what it all means for the future.
At Chattanooga Charge 2026, I joined a panel moderated by Josh West alongside David Moss and Landon of the West to discuss Tesla's FSD, Optimus, and the broader AI trajectory. The conversation covered everything from real-world autonomous driving experiences to what robotics could mean for accessibility and everyday life.
Full Self-Driving in the Real World
A large portion of the panel focused on what FSD actually feels like in practice — coast-to-coast autonomous travel, edge cases on the highway, and the growing confidence drivers are building with the system over time. The data is moving fast, and the firsthand experiences shared on the panel reflect a technology that's no longer theoretical.
Hardware 3 to Hardware 4
We spent time breaking down the leap from Hardware 3 to Hardware 4 — not just in raw compute, but in what it enables for inference quality and long-term AI capability. HW3 is a remarkable piece of engineering, but HW4 opens up a different ceiling entirely for what Tesla's neural network can learn and act on.
Optimus: Beyond the Factory Floor
The Optimus discussion went further than just manufacturing automation. The more compelling angle is what a general-purpose humanoid robot means for people who are elderly or disabled — daily tasks, mobility assistance, and independence in situations where those things are currently out of reach. That's where the real impact lands, and it came through clearly in the panel.
Tesla and AI-Powered Abundance
The through-line across everything we discussed was Tesla's trajectory toward a world built on AI-powered abundance — cheaper, safer transportation through autonomous vehicles, and physical AI in the form of robots that can handle labor where humans are unavailable or unable. It's a long arc, but the milestones are becoming visible.
